How to Create More Wardrobe Space

August 12th, 2010

If you have outgrown your closet space, the best way to create more might be right in front of your eyes. In fact, it could be a diy project you complete in a couple of hours for under £20s. Chances are you can just alter the existing set up you have. Now, here is how you go about it. Open up your wardrobe door to see if you can raise the existing hanging bar higher to accommodate another below it. If so, you have just doubled the amount of space you have for hanging clothes in that area. The only work involved will be removing the original rod, if necessary, to replace it higher, and to put another new rod in below. Oh and you will have to hang up some more clothes to fill the bottom row, but something tells me that will not de difficult.

Then of course, you might want to go and check out all the other wardrobes in your home to identify more found space. Or, perhaps we just gave you a mighty fine reason to go shopping for more clothes. Either way you should be a lot happier after completing this improvement.

The Best Way to Make A Small Space Look Larger

July 9th, 2010

If the entire square footage of your living space is teensy tiny, but you would like it to feel and appear larger, then take this advice. Pick one basic colour and use it throughout the place. This will create a monochromatic look that makes things flow from one area to the next. This does not mean use the same exact shade in all the rooms, it means take a colour you like and use variations of it in different places. Let the shades unfurl as you and your guests travel from entry to exit. Each nook and cranny will feel more connected, and as such the continuous line works to create that spacious feel you are after.

If you would prefer to get some guidance on what colour to pick, the most commonly recommended for small spaces are blue, green and purple. While it has been a common misconception, painting the whole place plain old white does not make it look bigger. Nor does it make it feel personalized, or special. And, yes it is work to paint, but it is also one of the easiest decorative choices to change. So, do not stress over the activity, instead look forward to your new and improved walls.

The Best Way to Increase Storage Space in Your Home

There are more and more furniture companies who are jumping on the bandwagon of including storage space in unconventional places. For instance, coffee tables with removable tops, with spacious storage areas craftily concealed within. Then there are beds that have mattresses that can be lifted on hydraulics to allow you to make use of the enormous room underneath. Finally, there are couches that have hidden storage compartments underneath the chaise lounge section. Not only does this make a great compartment to keep bits and pieces, but a wonderful hiding place from children and intruders. This is one feature that I find irresistible, and give a big thumbs up to.

To create a sleek cool style in your bathroom design, then place brushed nickel within it. Whether you are able to select new sink fixtures, or only add some finishing touches, brushed nickel is a wonderful addition. Its an improvement over polished chrome which can come across as cold and stark, and more in style than gold.

Overall, brushed nickel brings a reflective quality that plays off of the lights and mirrors within your bathroom. Nickel works well with virtually every colour in the rainbow, and its own colour bounces beautifully off of glass vases and candleholders. In the end, you will find that you have a smart, sparkly restroom to be proud of.

This Years Home Fitness Plan

January 2nd, 2010

This year I have resigned myself to the fact that if I join a gym I will undoubtedly start strong and quickly peter out. Therefore, this years fitness plan involves a couple of well-researched fitness dvds. I will keep some of my old favourites like Rodney Yees Power Yoga, Flexibility and Stamina in the mix, but add two to take it up a notch.

I broach this subject initially by defining exactly what I am looking for, and what will not work. For example, I have a decent amount of floor space to do mat work and routines. However, I will not purchase any more equipment, not one single piece. So, if I cannot use water bottles, or cans that already exist in my cupboard then the potential dvd is crossed off the list right off the bat.

After looking around, and reading a great deal of reviews and watching clips I narrowed it down and the order has been placed. Tracy Anderson, who has been making the television circuit this past year has won out. I am eager to get started on both her Mat Method and Dance Cardio lessons. Each will require true commitment if I plan to really make a change, but I know I will be pleased as punch with any results.

A Quick Way to Clean Up Used Furniture and Decorative Pieces

December 27th, 2009

When you have an entire home to furnish, it is often common to acquire some previously used items. Frequently, we collect a few things from friends and family over the years, and have stuff left over from the last place we lived. Even antiques bought directly from a dealer can fall into this category. When you bring in items to furnish and decorate your new living space, you need to freshen them up first.

One surprising instrument that assists in cleaning your old upholstery, lamp shades and rugs up is the lint roller. Normally, we use this little gadget to spruce up articles from our wardrobe, but luckily it can play more than role, or roll depending how you call it. Use the roller on the used articles prior to bringing them into your new home. Leave the yucky stuff outside, and only bring in the good.

How to Decorate a Small Room Properly

November 11th, 2009

When you get to furnish and decorate a small space from scratch it is easy to make a blunder. One way to insure that you get it right is to display items with reflective qualities. Light bouncing to and from objects always works in your favour when you are trying to make a small space look larger than it really is, or simply keep it from feeling too cramped.

A traditional approach to making small rooms feel larger is to use mirrors. Whether you use one large mirror, or several small ones, they will all grab the light and share the wealth in the otherwise potentially confined area. This is of course still a fabulous trick, but it works well with other articles too. Many studio apartments or lodging establishments whether it’s a countryside inn, or an interstate motel make use of mirrors to enlarge the room. Mirrors and reflective surfaces can put the bright in a brighton hotel or the light in a Lightfoot, Va. motel. They are a great way to further brighten up a room by magnifying existing light through reflection.

Take for example silver trays, or platters. A nice collection of these can be mounted on the wall as decoration, and will not only being striking, they will do the job of reflecting the all-important light. Here you get a lot of bang for your buck.

Finally, glass topped, or transparent tables also help to keep a tiny area feel more spacious than it truly is. This is especially true when you place glass or acrylic objects on the tables instead of solid opaque ones.
