When spring is around the corner and summer just a hop, skip and jump away, when you add a wooden playhouse to your garden, you are providing a great opportunity for your children to play outside in the fresh air and to take advantage of a wonderful playing area where many games learned now will be taught to their children and their grandchildren.

Your children will never be bored

Children of all ages can use all of their imagination to find a wide variety of games to be played in a playhouse. If your children don’t mix with many of the neighbourhood children, they probably will soon as you add a wooden playhouse to your garden.

The selection process for adding a playhouse to your garden isn’t necessarily straightforward. You will have to decide between purchasing one of the smaller plastic playhouses, which can easily be washed and moved indoors if you have enough space, during the winter months.

Alternately, you will be purchasing one of the larger wooden playhouses, which can be purchased in kit form to make the installation easy for you and give your children a playhouse to be proud of quite soon, rather than trying to build a unit from scratch and taking all summer.

You can find playhouses on your favourite online store. They are available in a range of designs so you may be able to choose one that will suit your children’s favourite preferences immediately.

When you add a wooden playhouse to your property, you will have the opportunity for your children to help you paint it in a range of delicious colours. For them, it will be great fun as they decorate their own home. For you, you will be providing a layer of protection against the weather and the elements which will keep your wooden playhouse in a safe and sound condition for your children to play in.

The add-ons are like iPad apps

Once your children have explained to you more about iPad apps – software programs that can be added to your tablet computer – they will enjoy the idea that you can add basketball hoops to the inside or outside of your playhouses, along with climbing ropes, slides and any other adventure stories that your children enjoy.

When you add a playhouse for your children’s delight, you are adding an entertainment centre so that their characters can run wild and free. Their playhouse may become a doctor’s surgery one day or a car mechanics garage the next. They can also become a wonderful theatre where your children and their friends can put on breathtaking shows filled with their spirit of imagination.

And your children grow older; they will consistently find new reasons to play in their playhouse. Even as teenagers, they will have the coolest homework spot in your town.

You will certainly be able to keep your children entertained if you add a wooden playhouse to your garden. You will be providing them with years of amusement and a generous helping of outdoor activities.

If you’re feeling extremely generous, you can have your children help you find playhouses on the Internet so that they can select the new garden building of their choice.

Where greenhouse gardening is a new idea for you, your first dilemma will be in choosing which of the many available greenhouses is best for your requirements. Many people make the mistake of purchasing a relatively small and inexpensive greenhouse, realising, after their first harvest, a much bigger model is required if you are to provide your family with organic fruit and vegetables across the winter season. Apart from deciding how you are going to use your greenhouse you must also consider how you’re going to find a new greenhouse.

Are you an occasional or a professional gardener?

The majority of people will fall somewhere between the occasional and the professional gardener if they were to describe their personal hobby and time spent in their greenhouse. You will need to know how long you can devote every day of the week to check on the growth of your plants and to ensure they are being watered properly and the area properly ventilated so that you can produce good quality fruit and vegetables at the right amount.

There are a variety of greenhouses available for every budget. The traditional wooden greenhouse still looks great in a garden setting, but more people have chosen metal greenhouses in recent years because they believe that a metal option is easier to look after with much less time spent on maintenance and repairs.

Modern greenhouse thinking is often linked to the purchase of a polycarbonate greenhouse because of the many advantages it holds over the wood and metal varieties. First, there is no glass involved which means that the level of danger to you and small children and pets is considerably lower. Second, the units offer your plants a level of protection against harmful UV rays, while allowing sufficient light through to help the livelihood of your plants.

What to look for in your new greenhouse

The amount of light that your plants receive is vitally important for the growth of your fruit and vegetables. Nevertheless, too much light can damage your plants. During the late autumn and winter months, the amount of daylight hours won’t be enough for your plants, so you will need to consider adding additional lighting into your greenhouse to help everything grow well during that period.

When there is too much light in a greenhouse, the temperature will rise considerably which will stress your plants and many will die as a result of this action. Ventilation therefore, is essential to help regulate the temperature in your greenhouse so that you can keep it at the optimum figure all day long and with some form of heating for the cold winter nights.

You should check with your potential supplier when you find a new greenhouse, whether you can easily add an exhaust fan and perhaps vents around the base of your greenhouse to provide yourself with the right airflow in your greenhouse so that you can reduce visiting insects and mould growth on your plants.

Choosing greenhouses that are strong and long lasting will be important to you because they have to stand up to daily activities as well as the entire range of weather that will arrive at different times of the year.

If you would rather spend more time tending to your plants, then mending your greenhouse, you may wish to choose a model that is low maintenance because some greenhouses will take up more of your time to keep them in good condition than others.

When you have decided upon the nature of your greenhouse hobby, it won’t be difficult to find a new greenhouse that matches your perfect requirements because you can spend your leisure time searching your favourite online manufacturer of greenhouses and look at all the differences in the available models.

With the festive period so close, deciding on gifts for your children causes some difficult choices. Christmas ideas, due to television, magazines and from every other page you click on the Internet, give you too many options. If you’ve taken the decision to buy a playhouse for kids, it’s a choice you won’t regret because it gives your children the opportunity to play indoors and outdoors, depending upon the time of the season and the weather.

Are you choosing a wooden or a plastic playhouse for your children?

If you want the opportunity to bring the kid’s playhouse inside when the weather isn’t so great outside, then the Little Tykes playhouses may be just what you’re looking for. They made from extremely strong plastic and have all been awarded the British standard for toy safety, so that you know your children will be safe when they play in a Little Tikes Playhouse.

There’s a complete range of children’s playhouses to choose from. Your children may prefer the older styled, Georgian houses which come complete with windows, apex roofs and doors that open.

Your kids will love to be able to spend private time in their plastic playhouses and yet at the same time share a lot of games with their friends and adults by occupying their own private house, within your house and garden.

The playhouses for kids offer a vast range of sizes which will all fit quite easily in your garden, but you might need to share space in your house for some of the larger ones.

These Christmas ideas for the younger children suit anywhere from the age of one up to the age of five or six, but much older children will be perfectly happy playing in these playhouses because there’s so much fun to be had.

Does colour matter?

For children who prefer one colour over another, the Little Tikes Playhouse range covers almost all eventualities. The Princess garden, is mostly pink with a lilac roof, whereas the Sunshine cottage is mostly yellow with a green roof.

There are natural coloured Little Tikes playhouses as well as others with stone effect finishes. For the environmentally friendly, there is a country cottage version and another called Earth Town, whether children can be educated about the environment and learn rules on morals that they can carry with them for life.

At the top of the range your children can have their own log cabin plastic playhouse which might be a great imitation for the adults’ log cabin in the same garden.

There are entire ranges of accessories that are available for all of these playhouses for kids. Children like to replicate real-life situations they see at home and play them with their friends in their plastic playhouse. In particular, they like to replicate the kitchen area and a dining area to serve tea and plastic cakes.

These smaller plastic playhouses can easily be taken apart and reassembled in a short period of time, unlike a wooden playhouse, which has to sit in your garden and can’t be moved indoors. The children will love whichever plastic playhouse you buy for them and you will all enjoy hours of fun in your Little Tikes playhouse.

There’s more to decorating a kitchen than choosing the appliances, countertop and tile. The window dressing in your kitchen can mean the difference between having a bright, airy space in which to cook, or feeling as though you’re slaving away in the rear of a fast food restaurant. There are plenty of choices available to accentuate the more permanent décor of the hard surfaces in your kitchen, but when making your final decision on what to hang, you should keep a few simple tips in mind.

The first thing you want to do is avoid anything heavy. Use fabrics rather than shades, or light thin blinds that can open up the room by allowing more light into the kitchen from outdoors. If you choose to go with fabrics, keep them light and semi-translucent if you’re facing a private area. If the kitchen windows face a semi-private area, then go with pleated blinds, as they’ll afford you the privacy you need while still allowing the light from outside to pass through freely.

Your choice of color is important when selecting a window covering. You’ll want to keep to contemporary colors, so avoid avocado green or industrial off-white shades. Natural colors are popular, with light earth tones blending in wonderfully with stone countertops or tiles. If you’re going with a fabric, then try a mix of prints to provide a nice contrasting look for your windows that should prove far more interesting than solid colors or simple prints. The smaller your kitchen is, the lighter your color choice should be in order to make the area look larger. If you’re decorating a larger kitchen however, then darker tones help to bring about a feeling of warmth.

After making a choice of color, you should look into getting treatments with texture. Natural blinds can look amazing over your windows, with bamboo or rattan providing a visual treat. For fabric coverings, choose weaves that highlight the color of the fabric while adding a bit of texture to your windows as well. You’ll really come to appreciate a bit of texture in your window coverings when it helps to diffuse some of the direct sunlight pouring into and overheating your kitchen.

A final consideration should be the shape of your window treatments. Straight draping fabric can feel a bit constrained and boring, blending the treatments into the background of your kitchen. Instead, go with a fabric that you can curve over the window, creating gentle arcs that help to soften the look of some of the larger boxy appliances in the room. If you have blinds installed, then place a fabric valance along the top of the windows to provide the curves that you need.

When choosing a window treatment for your kitchen, you should consider it as the final accent for the room. It’s the topping covering the layers of your décor, beginning with the floor tile or linoleum, extending upward through the cabinets and ending at the countertops. You don’t want to overdo the treatment, removing focus from the rest of the room, but you also want to take care that the treatment doesn’t fade into the background either. You also shouldn’t limit yourself to a single treatment. Change it up by season, with a light summer treatment followed by a different heaver treatment for the winter months. The important thing is to find a treatment that fits the room, your mood and the installed window hardware. You’ll be amazed at the visual results and at how much more enjoyable you’ll find spending time in the kitchen to be.

Splashbacks, also called backsplashes, are a vital part of any kitchen. Not only do they protect the walls in your food prep area, but they also enhance the overall look of the room.

You can use a splashback to add a little splash and sizzle to your kitchen, show off your personality and update the look of the room without undergoing any major renovations. There are a so many different splashback options available, however, that it can be hard to decide which one works best for you. Here are a few tips to help you decide:

Materials

Tile is a commonly used splashback material that comes in a wide range of colors, patterns and shapes, thereby allowing you to create a truly individualized backsplash. Tile is the most economical material option, but it can be hard to keep the grout between the tiles clean and free of stains.

Mosaic tiles make very attractive features when used as kitchen backsplashes, but, again, you must be willing to put in a bit of elbow grease to keep the grout clean.

Glass splashbacks are quite easy to keep clean and tend to be more hygienic than other splashback materials. This versatile material comes in plain, colored, or textured glass. Keep in mind that glass splashbacks are one of the most expensive materials to purchase and can be costly to install.

Mirrored backsplashes are often used to really open up a kitchen. This material, however, typically doesn’t stand up very well to moisture and food debris as well as standard glass.

Stainless steel is a very modern, clean material that is easy to maintain. Despite this, you should be aware that smudges, water marks and fingerprints show up easily, so you will have to clean it quite often.

Wooden backspashes, such as beadboard, can create a beautiful effect in your kitchen. Make sure the wood is properly sealed and maintained so it doesn’t suffer from water damage.

Styles

When searching for the ideal splashback for your kitchen, you should consider the overall impression you want to create and find materials that makes that statement.

For example, contemporary, modern, or minimal kitchens usually look great with a glass or stainless steel splashback. Mirror splashbacks also work well in contemporary kitchens, but avoid placing the material around the sink or food prep area.

Traditional kitchens often look nice with beadboard or other wooden backsplashes. Rustic or country kitchens give off a warm and homey vibe and look great with antique metals such as copper.

Design

There are really no hard and fast rules when it comes to splashback design. You might choose to wrap the material around the entire room to make your kitchen appear larger, or you could use the splashback just behind your sink or stove to highlight those specific areas.

Because a splashback bridges the cabinets and counters, you want to choose a color and material that works with both of those elements. Use complementary colors for a more traditional look, or liven up your kitchen using contrasting colors.

Consider the texture of your backsplash as well. A busy countertop often looks best with a simple splashback in one solid color. Solid counters, on the other hand, can handle the wow factor provided by colorful, patterned splashbacks, such as one made of iridescent glass mosaic tiles.

Price

Be sure that you consider your budget when shopping for splashbacks. Materials range anywhere from less than $1 per tile up to about $25 per strip of mosaic glass tiles. No matter what material you choose, shop around to get the best deal.

In your quest for an ideal splashback, try to choose one that reflects your own personal tastes and style. Once you choose a new splashback, don’t forget to find new towels, curtains and new curtain accessories to go with your kitchen’s new look.

Introduction

The largest flat panel HDTV screens available for commercial applications are in excess of 100″ across, measured diagonally and specialised, heavy-duty mounts have been designed to accommodate them. Obviously, the viewing distances required for screens of this size makes them unsuitable for the average living room and, in the U.K., the average screen size is 32″ for LCD (“Liquid Crystal Display”) and 42″ for Plasma. However, plasma screens are available in sizes up to 65″ and require a viewing distance of between 7.3′ and 10.2′, according to recommendations from the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) and THX Ltd.. A typical specification would include a native resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio, 10,000:1 contrast ratio and a weight of around 80kg. Although this all sounds very technical it is worth reading on to find out more useful information.

Wall Mounting a TV Screen

There is a wide variety of wall mounting brackets on the market, so you need to consider not only the size and weight, of your TV screen before you buy, but also the degree of flexibility that you require once the screen is mounted. The simplest form of wall mount is a flat mount, which allows a TV screen to lie flat against a wall, but tilt and tilt and swivel, mounts are also available, allowing a screen to be adjusted up and down and side to side, through various angles to suit your viewing needs. A cantilever mount adds an extra level of flexibility, allowing a screen to be adjusted away from a wall, on an arm and rotated to the required position.

Thankfully, a set of VESA (“Video Electronic Standards Association”) standards exists for flat panel TV sets and wall mounting brackets, so it is easy to match the screw holes on the back of a TV set to those on an appropriate bracket. You may come across measurements such as 75mm x 75mm, 100mm x 100mm, etc., up to 800mm x 600mm, corresponding to the various VESA standards.

A flat panel TV, whether LCD or Plasma, can be a heavy, not to mention expensive, piece of equipment, so correct fixing, as well as the correct choice of wall mount in the first place, is important. The construction of the wall on which a TV is to be mounted can have a bearing on how and where, it is installed. Brickwork is the most straightforward, requiring only the correct wall plugs and screws, but plasterboard may be more problematic, as a mounting bracket needs to be fixed securely to a stud wall.

Once a flat panel TV is securely affixed to a wall, the final step is to conceal the cables connecting the TV to other components of your home entertainment system, perhaps including a DivX DVD player, digital surround sound system, etc. Incorporating cables in a wall can be tricky, but the end result is much more pleasing, aesthetically, than cables dangling from the back of your TV set.

Your bathroom is the room in which you can soothe, nourish or revive your soul at the end of a long day with a relaxing, fragrant and hot bath or an invigorating and stimulating shower. That said, the modern bathroom also has to cope with whatever life throws at it from your family!

With this in mind, your bathroom furniture needs to be a combination of things – practical, hardworking, pleasing to your eye and stylish. However, it is one aspect of bathroom design that is often overlooked.

No matter what the size, colour or style of your bathroom, the right choice of bathroom furniture can transform a functional space into a pampering and pleasing place.

So first of all think what your storage requirements are. Have you a large family or just yourself? Obviously, the more people resident in the house, the more bottles, canisters, cleaning products, towels, toothbrushes and flannels you will probably keep in the bathroom – remember that bathrooms do have a tendency to get very untidy, on the double! Once you have got this aspect worked out, you can move onto other issues such as the size of your room, style and colour.

When checking the size and space you have available it is a good idea to measure spaces between sanitary ware properly as a bad estimate can sabotage even the most careful plans. If your bathroom ware is not yet fitted or completed, remember to allow for additional items such as pipes and your comfort, such as getting in and out of your bath. For example ask yourself, ‘will I bang my head if I hang this cabinet here?’

Also, remember that you need to check for any rules and regulations about minimum distances allowed between electrical items, for example heaters, extractor fans etc. How much space you have available is of paramount importance when choosing bathroom furniture. For example, if you have limited space then choosing items which are wall hung, such as mirrored cabinets, will perform two duties – to reflect any natural light around the room and to provide hidden storage for said items which would otherwise be stored around your bath and basin, thereby contributing to that familiar cluttered feel. In addition, the modern style of ‘hanging’ or ‘floating’ cabinets which do not have legs or plinths on the floor give the optical illusion of a larger room as you can simply see more floor under them. Corner units are also useful in smaller bathrooms as they can make the most of an otherwise useless space. Likewise, taller and narrow units can be helpful as the extra storage space is taken vertically and not horizontally. So there is much to consider when choosing cabinets and it is well worth planning in advance.

However, if size is not an issue you will have the luxury of being able to choose more storage pieces, vanity units and washstands all at larger sizes. Alternatively, if you are not looking for too much extra storage, then additional mirrored or glass shelves can give the illusion of being natural extensions of walls, blending in and not taking up important space.

From this step, move on then to the colour and style of your bathroom. Unless you are one for quirky design and clashing colours or you are in the process of completely redecorating, go for pieces which complement your exiting colour schemes either by blending with the neutrals or contrasting at opposite ends of the colour chart to inject some pizzazz into the space. Natural materials are always popular so varnished woods and polished stones such as units with faceted or shiny surfaces will help bounce light around. The recent trend for white hi – gloss finished units makes for a simple, modern and clean look and can be set off to perfection with an injection of colour of your choice if required.

If you’re looking for more living space but don’t want to go through the rigmarole or expense of moving home, then converting your loft might be a good place to maximise the floorspace of your house.

There are many reasons why you may want to consider a loft conversion. Perhaps you’ve got a child on the way, or want an office to work from home if you are lucky enough to enjoy that privilege or are self-employed. It could even be used for purely leisurely reasons, like for a games room or a home cinema suite. There’s also the potential for it to add lots of added value to your home, too. If you’re renting a home, then having an extra bedroom can mean more revenue with an extra tenant, too.

With the housing market still uncertain and mortgages becoming harder to come by than in recent years, then loft conversions can be a relatively cheap and easy way of getting more space.

If you go about converting your loft in the correct way and with the right help, it shouldn’t be too difficult. A great deal of loft conversions don’t require planning permission, as they are usually deemed to be within the grounds of permitted development rights. However, to get an effective and comfortable converted loft, you should enlist the help of a specialist who can help you realise your ideas. You will also need building regulation approval from you local authority and getting a dedicated conversion expert to assist in the process can make it much easier.

When it comes to your converted loft, you should be aware of the fact that what may be suitable for storing clutter will probably not be suitable for spending a great deal of time in. For instance, if your loft does not have windows, it might just be a good idea to have some installed so you can enjoy the benefits of sunlight!

You should also be mindful of space and how to make the best use of it. Consider investing in space-maximising gadgets to boost the area you’ve got to work in. Colours and decoration are also key, so be sure to pick a scheme which will be long-lasting and in-keeping with the rest of your house.

It’s likely that when you covert your loft, you will also invest in new items to fill it. When you do so, it’s essential that you notify your home insurance provider, so that your contents policy is sufficiently up-to-date.

If your home insurance policy is up for renewal, simply accepting the quote you’ve received from your current insurer isn’t the wisest move. You might be able to find a better deal elsewhere. Starting your search online with a comparison website can be effective way of cheap home insurance . They will allow you to quickly and effectively look at lots of quotes from many different insurers in order for you to find a policy which offers a good balance of cover and price.

Spas and hot tubs are growing in popularity thanks to a greater appreciation of the health benefits associated with water-based activities. Water therapy is certainly nothing new, having been made popular when the Romans built the first luxurious public baths and again in the 18th and 19th centuries when the water cure, or hydrotherapy, was thought to cure all ills. Nowadays cheap Canadian spas are readily available and can provide you with your own form of water treatment and relaxation when and where you need it.

The Benefits of Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy in one form another has been used throughout history and around the world as a way of treating illness, disease and bodily pain with water. Sometimes hot water was used and sometimes cold, but the healing power of water was an important element of many health beliefs.

The benefits of hydrotherapy can be felt in a range of ailments. Arthritis sufferers, for example, often experience an easing of the symptoms when muscles and joints are allowed to relax in hot water.

Painful joints are also easier to exercise and manipulate when submerged in water thanks to the buoyancy of water. When the body is supported by the water, far less stress is placed on joints, thereby relieving pain and stress and helping to make movement easier.

Sports enthusiasts often find a stiffening of the muscles after vigorous exercise. A relaxing session in a spa helps to massage the muscles, encouraging the body to disperse the build-up of lactic acid that causes the post-exercise muscular pain. The result is a quicker recovery from muscle stiffness than would be achieved without the help of the Canadian spa water jets.

For those who find insomnia to be a problem, the relaxing effects of swirling water help to prepare the body for sleep. Warming and relaxing the body in a gently swirling spa, set to a temperature of around 100 degrees Fahrenheit, for fifteen minutes before bedtime allows sleep to deepen as the body naturally cools once in bed.

Canadian spa water jets are easy to adjust, allowing the quick selection of settings between a gentle to a vigorous massage from head to toe. Whether you use the spa just for fun (party games have an extra element of fun when bubbles and water swirls are added) or for more dedicated pain relief or easing of stress symptoms, the effects are long-lasting and soothing.
