Decorate With Things You Already Have and Love

September 15th, 2011

While you might not be aware of it at the moment, you most likely have many delightful things that could be used in groupings to decorate your home. Instead of looking outside of your house for art and artefacts look within it first. A browse through your closets, attic or basement might unveil things you forgot you even had.

After being reintroduced to those plates your Aunt Mertyl bequeathed you, or the wooden toy soldiers your husband collected as a young boy, start to play with their placement in your home. If you prefer not to go on this treasure hunt without a map of sorts, chat with the other members of your household to see what they would like to bring out, or shine a spotlight on that has been hidden away for far too long.

One place that begs for quirky bits and pieces to call home are bookshelves. These personal items, or collectors pieces bring interest to such a stage, and break up the monotony that can be created by row after row of book spines. In fact, you could treat each and every shelf as its own display unit. Arrange interesting items you have uncovered on these and visitors will be captivated by what they can learn about you, or your families personality in this one zone.
